Layout and design your chamber first! It will save you time and money in the end.
My chamber is constructed from 304 Stainless steel. All joints are TIG welded with
stainless rod. All flanges are conflat type, utilizing a metal seal. Stainless is used for
many reasons. It is strong, it does not outgas as bad as other materials, and it is
great for blocking alpha, beta, and some low level gamma rays.
I started with two 8" stainless hemispheres from Wagner CO. These come unpolished. The chamber main conflats are 10". All smaller conflats are 2.75" flanges.
